A new chapter
Today, I walked my baby to her first day at high school.
Not my baby baby, but my FIRST baby. The one I was really scared to bring home from the hospital for fear I might make an irreversible mistake. The one who made us parents. The one who bought the sunshine and the moon and stars and responsibility……….so much responsibility. So much Adulting!!
Today I felt the unexpected but definite turn of the proverbial page, a new chapter begins.
When she started primary school at 4 years and 10 months old, I posted this blog message to her and took a mountain of photos. (Today, photos require pre-teen approval)
I am happy to say that she still think school is cool (although not out loud) and she was really looking forward to starting today. She came home excited but anxious about the new people she’d met and how to navigate the new friendships she knows are just around the corner. She is really bright and conscientious and most of the time she’s a genuinely excellent, decent human being. So I feel we are #winning.
She’s so much taller and her hair is much longer but deep down inside she is our first born baby and I am infinitely more scared of the teenage years than I was when she started primary school, but hindsight is a wonderful thing.
Go get em kid! You’ve got this.
I hope you check in with us a lot. Let us know you’re ok and when you need our love and support. You’ve got it all anyway, forever and always, but don’t be afraid to ask for more. The ocean of love we have for you will never be dry.
